The history of Big Sur Fire reaches back into the history of Big Sur itself. Big Sur Fire was formed in 1974 to provide fire protection for residents and businesses alike. We are funded almost entirely by grants, individual donations, and fundraising events like our Annual Muster and the Big Sur Marathon. Our volunteers are members of the community who live and work in Big Sur. Today we not only serve the over 1,700 residents, but the millions of visitors who drive Highway One each year.
